careers options for hella sake.

so yes, for the longest time i’ve wanted to be a computer games programmer. but i’m now wondering about what i should do. i want something that is guaranteed to get me a job, and i’m not sure that being in the games industry would, especially living in the UK anyway. i mean sure, we have a few companies, but not many. so i need big help. i’m also wondering which university to go to. currently i’m considering birmingham, york, or in the worst case scenario, teesside. i just don’t know.

right now i’m considering advertising, i reckon i’d be good at that. any ideas?

Is it something in computing you still want to do or open to other ideas?

Apparently Edinburgh has one of the best Computer Game Programming courses in the UK (or at least did a few years ago when I was considering it…)

Dude, if you came to edinburgh we could…..be together…..at last…..

Web Development is fun, but uni course for it are dull, my year was spent using Java, C++, XHTML, CSS, very little XML, HCI and communications. Not that all of it is useless, it barely touched on things like AJAX and JavaScript which you’d use quite a bit now, and none of the dynamic stuff happens unless you go for honours.

comp sci is supposed to be pretty boring and less people are going for it, so i wouldnt go for that

there’s multimedia tech which seems pretty general and mixes with web dev, and is line what you have been doing isn’t it?

why not just go for the games dev route and pick up some other stuff yourself outside of it, i have a contact for video games industry recruiting in the UK that I could pass on for later :d

(also rollercoaster tycoon was made by one guy, you could do that…)
